Description
Cloisonne is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork that has been practiced in China since the 13th century. The technique consists of meticulously sodering thin metal wires into the outline of a design to create cellular compartments called cloisons. These cells are then hand filled with vibrant enamel paint, and the object is fired and polished.
This set of two small cloisonne vases is an outstanding example of Chinese mastery of this ancient craft. The vases feature beautiful blossom cherry blossoms atop a deep navy blue body. Delicate cloud motifs are ornated throughout the vases' bodies. Equally intricate bands of light blue cloud drape across the vases' mouths, necks, and bases, completing the overall designs. This set is a one-of-a-kind work of art to be collected and is a great showpiece wherever it is placed.
Care
If possible, always keep bronze and similar metal materials in ventilated areas away from excessive heat or humidity. For regular cleaning, use a damp microfiber cloth making sure to remove any excess water or moisture left behind. For crevices and areas that are tough to get to, use a soft bristled brush.
It is natural for a greenish patina to develop on bronze over time. This is a result of a natural oxidation process as the bronze is exposed to the environment. Occasional application (1-2 times per year) of WD-40 can help prolong this process.
